Tips For Your Wedding Dress Fitting
It’s the most important dress you will ever wear. Your wedding dress! You want to make sure it’s absolutely perfect. From the moment you purchase the dress, to the second you walk down the aisle, there’s an entire process to go through that will ensure you have the perfect fit. Dany Mizrachi is here to let you know what to expect from your first fitting up until the final fitting.
Before Your First Fitting
Before you go to your first fitting, you should buy your undergarments and your bridal shoes. These are two important things you need for your fittings. If you wear a different bra or shoes each time, it can change the way the dress fits.
The First Fitting
The first fitting is usually done about six weeks prior to your big day. Similar to if you were shopping, it’s best to bring an honest friend or family member along for their advice. Don’t forget to bring along your shoes, undergarments and any jewelry you have purchased, this way you can see everything together and see what the final look will look like.
The first fitting is to ensure that your gown is the right size, the right color, and the right design. If there needs to be any changes made, you should know that your seamstress has a handle on those alterations.
It’s important to use a three-way mirror to view all angles of the dress. Ask for another hand-held mirror if you need it. You should speak up if you see anything that you don’t like. This is your wedding dress after all.
The Second Fitting
The second fitting should take place about a month before your wedding. Similar to the first fitting, it’s important to bring the same shoes, undergarments, and jewelry. If you’re deciding between different types of jewelry or accessories, bring them along so you can try them on with your dress. A good idea is to photograph each look with your phone or a camera so you can compare each option. During the second fitting, you should make sure:
- You can move comfortably in your dress
- The dress stays in place when you move or when you dance
- There’s no obvious wrinkling or bunching of the fabric
- And most importantly, that all of your concerns (if any) from the first fitting have been fixed.
The Final Fitting
During the final fitting, it’s a good idea if your maid of honor goes with you. This allows her to really learn about your dress before the day of the wedding. If there are complicated straps or buttons, this gives them the time to figure out the way your dress works before you are all under pressure. This is the time to really finalize your dress and make sure it’s everything you’ve ever wanted.
The Pick-Up
Once your final fitting is complete, you should schedule a date and time – at least two weeks before your wedding – to pick up your gown. When you go to pick up your gown, you should try it on one last time. Picking it up two weeks before your wedding day allows time for any small last-minute alterations.
Finding the perfect wedding dress should be towards the top of your priority list. Once you find the right dress, it’s important to make sure it fits right and it’s ready for your big day.
